Second day of Game Viewing

Resting!
More game viewing but this time with Liberty, another excellent guide from Camp Hwange.

The photos speak for themselves!

On the second night of our stay (Thursday 20th October), like the first, we went out on an afternoon/evening drive which extended into a night drive.  It's magical sitting and watching game as the sun goes down with a cold beer or gin and tonic in hand - plus snacks, of course!  Looking for eyes in the dark keep you very alert.  There are loads of spring hares bouncing around like little miniature kangaroos.  No leopard though.  Or at least we didn't see any - which is a different thing.  Time passes without you realising it as you are so absorbed in the environment around you.

On Friday morning we left Camp Hwange, again with Liberty in the driving seat, to head north through the Park to Sinamatella and on to Mbala Gate where we were collected for transfer to Victoria Falls.  This meant that we again had opportunity for game viewing.  We started off at Shumba Pan where there were several elephant having an early morning drink (an elephant can go without water for about three days) and had our breakfast up at Masuma Pan.

Young sable - as they age their coats become darker

Elephants are incredible creatures but we could see the devastation that they cause to the natural vegetation as we travelled.  When that's all gone what will they eat?  How will they survive?

Thanks Camp Hwange!
