We're here!

We're here in the sunshine city of Harare and all the jacarandas are in full bloom and looking beautiful.  We've arrived!

George had kindly taken us to Gatwick North as Southern Rail were on strike. After the long journey the day before I, for one, was very glad that he could take us.
Drop off zone - Gatwick North

No hassle with luggage or departure although I did find out that mascara is classified as a liquid! We took up our full 4 litre (between us) duty free allowance!  Didn't bother with wine or chocolate. The flight to Dubai was full so our hope that the middle seat between us would remain empty was dashed.  Penny had booked the window seat and me, the aisle.  Dozed a bit and watched a movie.  A quick turnaround in Dubai and then we were off again on a much emptier plane and this time we had no middle person.  Nine and half hours later were in Harare after a stop on the tarmac in Lusaka.  We arrived a little early.  On the way to immigration I asked Penny and some young German co-travellers what their first impressions were.  Penny remarked that everything was so clean but the Germans said "Fried chips"!
The queue for visas was again hassle free and we could see Alastair up in the cafe above us raising a cold beer to us.  Welcome to Zimbabwe!

We were pretty tired but didn't want to sleep just yet so after a quick change into much lighter clothing, at the flat at Sherwood, we set off to an indian restaurant in Milton Park.   Lovely meal outside in the garden.  This is a relatively new place.  Just so wonderful to be outside under the stars.

Fell into bed looking forward to the next day.
