ZRP recruits on their early morning run |
I awoke to freshly brewed coffee and then grabbed my camera when I heard the sound of the police recruits on their early morning run. As the sun rose higher into the sky we chatted with Les and Ant and began to plan the day. Penny was taken a tray of tea - teapot and cosy. She was very impressed! Then Gloria arrived and it was wonderful to see her again. She says we must stay and not ever leave!

After dropping off Alastair at work (loved being able to do that) and a quick lesson in how to drive an automatic vehicle off we set to Saint George's (Alan's old school) to meet Helen Jones who now lives there. Her partner is the deputy head (and soon to be Head) of Hartmann House; the prep school for Saints. The road up past the President's house was blocked off so we had to drive up via the Botanical Gardens and past the Mendels old house and then back down 7th Street. the school still looks very much the same and we could see a group of boys at Assembly.
We chatted with Helen and had coffee and then re-met her outside Cabs in Mount Pleasant. I was briefed about police road blocks and the introduction of stop sign fining "make sure you stop and wait 5 seconds before proceeding". Ah well 5 minutes later I was having a very interesting conversation with Sergeant Ganga who happily relieved me of $40 - failure to stop (I had stopped but had then followed the car in front of me left at the intersection at Groombridge) - and also a faulty light over the number plate. A pleasant little half hour interlude!
On we went to Borrowdale and Sam Levy's Village. The old area behind where the nightclub was has been knocked down and a new area developed. We had lunch at Ocean Basket - again outside and in the sunshine. Also visited Econet to buy sim cards.
